Left Your Bearded Dragon’s Lights On All Night? Here Is What To Do

Bearded dragon owners have a lot of responsibilities to tend to in order to keep their reptiles healthy and happy. However, one thing that has slipped many reptile owners’ minds when they were busy is to turn the bearded dragon’s lights off at night.

If you left your bearded dragon’s light on overnight, you don’t need to panic because no harm was caused. However, this does affect the bearded dragon’s sleep schedule, so you may notice that it seems more tired than usual.

Did you accidentally leave your bearded dragon’s light on overnight? Don’t worry, you’re in the right spot. Today, we’re going to discuss what to do if you leave your bearded dragon’s lights on all night. Keep reading to learn more.

Why You Have To Turn Off Their Light At Night

A bearded dragon’s light needs to be turned off at night for the same reason your bedroom light gets turned off when you go to bed. The bright light makes it difficult for the bearded dragon to sleep. Bearded dragons are sensitive to light. While the light serves a purpose during the day, it doesn’t at night.

Do Bearded Dragons Need Heat At Night

Bearded dragons don’t require heat at night. Think about how the creature would live in the wild in its natural habitat. The days would be hot and humid, while the temperature would cool off at night. The tank that you keep your bearded dragon in gets thoroughly heated throughout the day. It will hold some of that heat in overnight so it doesn’t get too cold for the reptile.

However, you may need a heat source if you live in a cold climate and don’t have the heat on at night. Ideally, the bearded dragon’s tank should be between 70 and 75 F/ 21 to 24 C. As long as your house doesn’t get colder than 65 F/ 18 C at night, you won’t need a heat source.

What Happens When You Leave Your Bearded Dragon’s Lights On All Night?

The good news is, that your bearded dragon will likely be fine (as long as this is something you don’t make a habit of doing). However, the bearded dragon is likely very tired. It may seem like it’s not in a good mood or simply not acting like itself. This is because leaving the light on all night completely changed its schedule.

Now, you may be under the impression that if you turned off all the lights and closed the blinds for the day, your bearded dragon will recuperate, but that can throw its schedule off even further. Don’t make any more changes to your dragon’s sleep schedule, as you should keep the room well-lit during the day, and dark at night.

How To Prevent This From Happening In The Future?

You may think that one scare is enough and that you’ll never make this mistake again. However, you’re only human and you never know when an emergency may arise that takes you out of the house at night. Or, you may want to go away for an overnight visit and don’t have anyone to take care of your bearded dragon’s light situation.

One of the easiest solutions to this problem is to get an automatic timer for the bearded dragon’s lights. This way, you will never have to worry about affecting your reptile’s sleep schedule when life gets the better of you. These are very easy to use, and once you have the timer set, you won’t have to worry about a thing when it comes to the bearded dragon’s light.

Final Thoughts

Did you leave your bearded dragon’s light on overnight? If so, your reptile is likely very tired. Bearded dragons are sensitive to lights, so the light being on all night made it difficult for the reptile to sleep and interrupted its schedule. These reptiles need a dark room to get a night of proper sleep.
